A Fishing Journey Begins

My name is Samu, I’m 52 years old and come from the beautiful town of Oulu, in northern Finland located near the arctic circle. Growing up, I was always fishing with my dad in the sea off of Hailuoto Island. In my teenage years, I decided to pursue a higher education by attending university in Helsinki.

However, in the end fate had other plans for me – as soon as I finished school I moved back home to Oulu (I missed it so much) where I became a fisherman! One day while having drinks at a local pub, I met an American tourist called Katy who was vacationing in Finland. We fell head over heels for each other and ended up getting married! This led us to move abroad when we were 32; since then we have been living all around the US and finally settling down here in Alaska recently (which has some pretty great fishing spots!).

When it comes to fishing, nothing compares to exploring different lakes, rivers and seas around the world - something that I’ve been doing ever since returning from university. Whether it’s fly fishing or deep-sea angling – chances are that if there’s water involved then so am I! My two sons and daughter also inherited my passion for this sport which makes our family trips even more enjoyable!
